Hello, Londoners. Here at About Time we’ve decided to dedicate a whole column to London’s best cheap eats; every Wednesday we’re be showing you the best bargain places to grab a plateful of delicious grub. Without further adieu, here are London’s best money-saving dishes this week:
Breakfast
1. For Something Chocolatey: Melt Room
What: Nutella on toast is a classic breakfast staple, but the guys at the Melt Room have gone one step further with their Nutella and mascarpone toastie. They use milk bread and generously slather the two fillings together, we’re not saying get this everyday, but there’s no time like the present to get your winter body on point.
The Lowdown: Melt Room is all about bringing the taste of the much-loved New York-style cheese-stuffed hot sandwich to London. The cheese sandwich just went gourmet and we like it. Melt Room use artisan and locally sourced ingredients to offer not only cheese, but an extensive range of unique meat, pork, chicken and vegetable combinations.

Lunch
What: For a quick lunch on the go, Suvalki should be your first port of call. Along with their lunch menu to eat in, the also roll out their take away menu. There’s 5 flavours of wraps to choose from including pork with plum tomatoes, parsley glazed red onion and tzatziki and wild boar sausage with vegetables and a spicy red pepper sauce.
The Lowdown: Launched in July, Suvlaki is a sleek, modern, fast casual restaurant serving delicious Greek street food, suvlaki. The Athenian grill house provides hungry Londoners with a unique new concept from lunch to dinner, take away to delivery and for late night bites.

3. For a Meal Deal: Cookhouse Joe
What: If you’re thinking about going for a ‘cheeky Nandos’ think again. Our points being chicken is not cheeky and Nandos doesn’t compare once you’ve been to Cookhouse Joe. If you work around the Soho area you’re in for a treat, at lunchtime they have a special menu. You can’t go wrong with their 1/2 chicken, chips, salad and chilli sauce.
The Lowdown: Along with their chicken banquet at lunch, they also served a range of different wraps served with chips for a fiver. A fiver. They might be known for their expertly cooked chicken but they’re also a dab hand at creating some downright delicious Lebenese sides – anything from halloumi salads, tabbouleh and falafel wraps.On Wednesday’s they sell bottles of Prosecco for £15. Winner.

4. For Spanish: Tapas Revolution
What: Forget cold sandwiches and wraps for lunchtime, Tapas Revolution in Shoreditch run their lunch time set menu from 12pm-5pm on weekdays. There are two set menus on offer with the first including, pan tostado, jamon Iberico, chorizo Iberico, queso manchego and paella de pollo. The second is the vegetarian menu and includes pan tostado, ensalada de tomates and paella de verduras.
The Lowdown: The clue is in the name, but Tapas Revolution are famed for their tapas, along with some pretty cracking cocktails. Their lunch time menu is best for saving the sparkles, however if you’re in the mood to splash the cash, order a few of their tapas dishes.

Late night
What: We big fans of after work drinks, which tends to lead us to the bright lights of our local kebab house (make ours a chicken shish with extra garlic sauce). If you’re after something that isn’t pitta based, after 9pm Ma Plucker offer a buttermilk dipped thigh or their hickory spiced pulled chicken in a bun with an ice-cold beer all for a tenner.
The Lowdown: With a side serving of R&B, a hefty portion of soul and sauces, Ma’ Plucker is your one stop chicken shop. They have all kinds of chicken goodness on the menu and if you eat there between 5pm-7pm you can tuck into 1⁄4 rotisserie chicken and salad for £10.
Price: £10 for a buttermilk dipped thigh or their hickory spiced pulled chicken in a bun with an ice-cold beer.
