We live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and he’s tried pretty much every barbershop in New York at this point – always on the quest for the perfect trim. So whilst we were in London this summer, I booked him into Murdock London, having heard rave reviews on the premium men’s barbershop. We were incredibly impressed. Here’s everything you need to know:

Located-wise, you can’t beat it. Murdock’s flagship location is situated in the bustling Soho district, near all the best bars, theatre and restaurants. Upon walking into the shop, the first thing you notice is the distinctively classic yet modern interior – expect lots of dark wood, leather interiors and a contemporary feel. They’ve really modernised the traditional barbershop feel – it’s all a bit sexy and subtle, with soft lighting, separate stations for each client and trendy background music. It feels more like an upscale bar than a barbershop, and a lovely retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.

First thing’s first, the staff are wonderful. Warm, inviting, personable, everything you’d want from a high-end barbershop experience. The Murdock Soho experience begins the moment you step through the door. A friendly receptionist greets you, offering a beverage while you wait – coffee, tea, or even a glass of whiskey.
My husband said one of the things he liked most about Murdock London was their attention to detail. Before your haircut begins, your barber will take the time to understand your needs and preferences. It’s not just a quick “What are we doing today?” but a more in-depth consultation. They’ll ask about your lifestyle, how much maintenance you’re willing to do, and what specific problems you’ve encountered with your hair in the past. It’s a real change from how men’s hair cutting has been treated in the past, with more of a bespoke and luxury experience.

The cut itself is where Murdock Soho truly shines. My husband’s hair has never looked better – so often a barber will cut too much off, for the sake of getting bang for your buck. The barbers here will really listen to you, and they specialize in traditional techniques combined with contemporary styles. Whether you’re looking for a classic short back and sides or something bolder, the barbers exhibit an impressive versatility.
This haircut was a collaborative process; the barber checked in with my husband throughout the process, working incrementally, showing you their progress and making adjustments as needed. Basically, a good way to make sure there’s no misunderstanding between what you asked for and what the final result is.
Another highlight of the Murdock experience is the use of their own line of grooming products. The premium grooming products include hair styling creams, oils, and aftershaves that are formulated with natural ingredients, avoiding the harsh chemicals often found in mass-market products. Their products are lightweight, fragrant without being overpowering, and suitable for daily use. The products all smell amazing and the final result was A+.

I won’t lie, Murdock Soho falls on the higher end of the pricing spectrum for men’s haircuts. A standard haircut can range anywhere from £50 to £80, depending on the specific service you opt for. Additional treatments like beard trims, facials, or scalp treatments come at an added cost.
However, the premium you’re paying is justified by the level of service, skill, and care you receive. This isn’t just a quick in-and-out barbershop haircut; it’s an experience. The barbers take their time with each client, and my husband was raving about his experience for days afterwards. You’re paying for the expertise, the premium products, the luxury of the ambiance, and the overall customer care.
