Mother’s Day in StyleBy Angelica Malin
Let’s be honest, it’s really easy to do Mother’s Day badly. We’re talking flowers from Co-Op, a box of those seashell chocolate and a rushed card. Come on London, your mothers deserve better. To save you time, we’ve rounded-up a few things we think it’s about time your mothers tried. Because mothers come in all shapes and sizes, after all:
1. For the Stressed Mother
Pamper + Primrose Hill Walk at Cowshed
The idea: Cowshed in Primrose Hill is one of our all-time favourite spas in London; quiet and intimate, the beautifully decorated all-white spa also has a cute cafe, serving fresh orange juice and homemade cake. Honestly, what’s not to love. The spa is offering a special Mother’s Day package – a Cowshed Manicure and a Cowshed Facial for your mum, with a glass of prosecco included. That’s a saving of £17.5o and one happy mumma. Book.
Price: £100 for the Mother’s Day Pampering Treatment Package
2. For the Mad Mother
Spa + Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Sanderson London
The idea: Take your mother for a spot of pampering at Agua Spa at the swanky Sanderson hotel. We recommend the 55-minute deep-tissue Swedish massage (£90) in the lovely, calm setting. Then sit down in the Sanderson courtyard to try their crazy Mad Hatter’s Tea Party – expect ‘strawberries and cream’ homemade marshmallow mushrooms, a ‘Tick Tock’ traditional Victoria sponge clock, and ‘Jelly Wonderland’ in Victorian moulds. Add a finishing touch and pre order a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers with Laura Kuy. Book.
Price: £48 per person Afternoon Tea with complimentary pink champagne for Mother’s Day.
3. For the Gourmet Mother
Lunch at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe + Walk
The idea: Take your mother to the beautiful Galvin Bistrot de Luxe, near Baker Street, for a special 3-course meal designed just for Mother’s Day. I recommend it for two reasons; firstly, Chris Galvin is a Michein-starred chef who has worked in some of the world’s finest restaurants, secondly, it’s actually a bit of a steal at £29 per person – which means your mother can indulge in poached asparagus with truffle and haricots verts, while you can indulgence in the fact you’re not leaving with an empty wallet. Win win. Go for a stroll around nearby Regent’s Park afterwards to complete your francophile day and, perhaps, to walk off the Crème Caramel. Book.
Price: £29 per person from set set menu
4. For the Sunshine Mother
Mauritian Pop-Up + Dancing in Tooting
The idea: If you’re looking for something different, step away from the usual restaurant meal and check out this amazing pop-up in Tooting on Saturday 29th March. For £30, you’ll get live sega dancing, music, cocktails and amazing food, hosted by Yummy Choo Eats. Expect a menu of succulent prawns cooked in creole spicy tomato sauce, fresh homemade coconut and mint tamarind chutney and caramelised vanilla pineapple & homemade coconut ice cream. Hurry, there’s only a few tickets left! For more information, see here. Book.
Price: £30 per person
Flower Arranging Class + Lunch at Blueprint Cafe
The idea: Blueprint Café in the Design Museum is holding a mother and daughter flower master class on Sunday 30th March. The package includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival, a demonstration and interactive master class, a two-course set lunch (from their Market Menu) and your floral creation to take home, all kicking off at 10.30 am. Blooming marvellous. For more information on all of D&D’s Mother’s Day offerings, click here. Book.
Price: Tickets are £60 per person, including lunch
6. For the Bubbly Mother
Marshmallows + Bubbly at Aubaine
The idea: Veuve Clicquot has taken their famous Rosé champagne to new heights this Mother’s Day with the introduction of a limited edition lemon meringue marshmallow, designed to perfectly compliment the pretty pink bubbly stuff. We’ve yet to try the flavour pairing, but we’ve got it on good authority that the citrus flavours of the sweet treats work perfectly with the fruity bubbles. Either way, it’s a nice little treat, available at Aubaine restaurants throughout the country for the next few months.
Price: 3 lemon meringue marshmallows and a glass of champagne – £15 per person
7. For the Healthy Mother
Tea Tox + People Watching at Brown’s Hotel
The idea: Ok, so afternoon tea can be a little rich, we know as much. So if you’re looking for something a bit lighter, the beautiful Brown’s Hotel offer a ‘tea-tox’ in their English Tea Room with lighter options such as spelt bread, dark rye, and sugar-free chocolate cake. A great option for the diet-conscious among us who still want to indulge in some Mother’s Day naughtiness. Full menu here. Go for the dark oak panelling and roaring fire, stay for the loose-leaf tea. Book.
Price: £41 per person for Afternoon Tea
