About Time: You Attended London’s First Vegan ‘Steak’ Night at Club MexicanaBy Alicia Grimshaw
Not familiar with Club Mexicana? It’s the brainchild of Meriel Armitage, and draws inspiration from the vibrant flavours of Mexico and California. The restaurant – with outposts in Kingly Court, Brixton and Shoreditch – has carved a niche in London’s culinary landscape with its innovative approach to plant-based cuisine, whether its pulled pork, BBQ short ribs or carne asada. And now, it’s about to shake things up even further with the launch of London’s first vegan ‘Steak’ Night – Meriel’s version of the classic Steak Frites.
Running every Wednesday evening, ‘Steak’ Night, puts the spotlight on Steak Frites, made using plant-based ingredients resulting in a steak as close in taste to its meaty counterpart. Whether it’s the straight-up ‘steak’ frites with chimichurri and aioli, or a trio of steak tacos with all the trimmings, Wednesdays will celebrate an innovative take on plant-based ‘steak’ with a Mexican twist.
Gather friends and family for a shared indulgence in a platter featuring medium-rare ‘steaks’ infused with garlic and rosemary, accompanied by an array of flavorful accompaniments such as habanero-pineapple salsa, chipotle-pepita salsa, and freshly pickled cabbage. All served alongside a stack of charcoal tortillas
Of course, no steak night would be complete without the perfect beverage pairings. Choose from a thoughtfully curated selection of old-world wines or sample offerings from London’s craft breweries, all expertly chosen to complement the robust flavours of the ‘steak’ frites.
‘Steak’ Night is available every Wednesday at Club Mexicana’s Brixton and Shoreditch outposts.
