About Time You Tried: LFW Menu at The May Fair KitchenBy Angelica Malin
I need very little encouragement to put on a sparkly dress, a pair of heels and smoky eye make-up these days. Any excuse to dress up and play fashionista, I’m there. Thus, the launch of May Fair Kitchen’s new London Fashion Week menu seemed as good an excuse as any to throw on my favourite sequin dress and get down to Mayfair to mingle with the rich and insta-famous. Here’s the lowdown on the special trend-inspired menu and cocktails for Fashion Week:
LFW Menu at The May Fair Kitchen: The Lowdown
The May Fair Hotel is the official hotel sponsor of London Fashion Week, so it’s no surprise they’ve pulled out all the stops this year. If you don’t know, The May Fair Kitchen, the hotel’s restaurant, is the place to come for an intimate dining experience; the restaurant embraces the concept of shared eating, with a sophisticated, sexy setting. The interiors are to die for, and the restaurant is slick, cool and full of good vibes – with all the ambience you’d expect in a 5* establishment. You can read our full review of the restaurant here. This year, they’ve introduced a special Fashion Week menu, which runs until the end of February.
LFW Menu at The May Fair Kitchen: The Food
To celebrate London Fashion Week, The May Fair Kitchen has come up with menu of vegan soups and salads for the fashion crowd looking for a nutritious meal between shows. Of course, if you want a burger, please don’t deny yourself, but if you’re looking for something full of health and flavour, their vegan menu is a winner. There’s a selection of vegan soups and salads; vegan soups include an artichoke and fennel soup, with roasted spring onions and pine nuts and an almond, onion and saffron soup with roasted tofu. I loved the artichoke soup – it’s earthy, rich and full of flavour, and tastes deliciously nutritious.
If you’re on the hunt for a great salad, their special Fashion Week salads include a rocket and pear salad with cured tofu and apple vinegar dressing, a vegetable couscous with grilled fresh corn and berry pesto and a pomelo and avocado salad with shallot dressing. My personal favourite was the pomelo and avocado salad – the combination of sweet citrus fruit and creamy avocado is just perfect, and the dressing brings it all together wonderfully. All in all, an impressively good menu, perfect for plant-loving foodies.
LFW Menu at The May Fair Kitchen: The Drinks
There’s also some special drinks running to celebrate London Fashion Week; The May Fair Bar is serving up ‘The Love Collection’, a limited-edition cocktail menu. Cocktails include Love with Pisco Aba, lemon juice, fresh basil, egg white and hibiscus tea and Passion, with Olmeca Blanca tequila infused with orange, Cointreau, strawberry shrub and spiced honey syrup. There’s also Adore made with Jameson, Black Sambuca, elderflower cordial, egg white and lemon juice and Desire, a mix of Gin Mare, beetroot and carrot juice.
My personal favourites were Love, which is deliciously sweet with fresh basil and tea, and Passion, which is the perfect blend of tequila and citrus flavours. The cocktails are also beautifully presented, and make a great Instagram snap, I’ll tell you that for free.
LFW Menu at The May Fair Kitchen: Our Verdict
The London Fashion Week menu at The May Fair Kitchen and Bar really impressed me; the dishes are all full of flavour, and totally delicious, and the cocktails tick all the boxes. If you’re looking to hang with the fashion crowd, I say get yourself down to Mayfair for a night of love, cocktails and sharing plates.
