August Bank Holiday weekend is on the horizon and if you’re yet to make any plans (sometimes spontaneity is the spice of life eh?), Big Penny Social in Walthamstow is launching its very first ‘BIG SWIG’ Drinks Festival.

From Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th August, enjoy over 170 keg and cask beers from the best independent breweries in the southeast of the UK alongside an array of ciders, wine and spirits. Held over five lively sessions throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, expect exciting line-up of live music at every session whilst supping a great selection of sampling from breweries including Elusive, Five Points, Iron Pier and Pillars Brewery. Several exhibitors will be showcasing their brands with Absinthe and Gin slushies from Devil’s Botany, dry coffee liqueur from Algebra and wild fermented wood-aged beers from Barney’s Beer, amongst many others.

It’s a fiver entry, plus you get to take home pint glass as a keepsake from the event. If you’ve yet to take the Vicki Line up to Walthamstow to visit Big Penny Social, it’s a new type of community-focused venue designed to be a pub, arts centre and town square all rolled into one. The food and drink menu focuses on seasonal ingredients and local producers, headlined by a rotating selection of beers, sourdough pizzas and Sunday roasts. Everyone’s needs are catered for, with alcohol-free beer on tap, a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, plenty of choices for kids, and options for gluten-free (and other) special diets.
